Lucky for us, Richard Martin Jr has taken to the combat bug!

Not only is he cutting Mig kits, he cut 128 coro Mako fins, and 17 Mako ply plates!

The machine is awesome...

I suspect that if you paid full price to run that machine you couldn't afford to make model airplane parts! Way cool though!

It is easily $140 an hour plus setup costs. Richard will probably chime
in with actual numbers eventually.

Here is the deal....

Full blown Cincinnati (sp?) dual bed laser machine..

The father, Richard Martin Sr. is a full blown full scale pilot and loves aviation. His son, Richard Jr. is a super cool, low key dude that is into RC in general. Lucky for us, he digs combat and is actually really good at it, and getting better event by event. He hunted down Pete Sullivan at the Fallbrook event and got the cut is the most dramatic of ways. Pete had the last money streamer, and was being kind by flying high enough from time to time to give those in pursuit a chance. But, when Pete came down the pipe, right in front of everyone, he was on the deck. Well, on the last pass, with less than 30 seconds in the round, Richard dove in from WAY up there... full tilt boogey...nothing held back..and man, he swooped in and took Petes streamer. The entire flying site erupted in hoots and hollars!! Hands down,, the BEST cut of the season.....

So, yes we are REALLY blessed/lucky/greatfull whatever to have Richard involved...

After spending a full weekend with him and his equipment, you get a real appreciation for the work being done.

His company charges about $180 per hour to run this rig..

If the Mig boys had to pay the hourly rate, it would never happen. If I had to pay the hourly rate, I'd run enough parts that I'd not have to bother Richard for a few years....

Cool HECK yeah!!

My little 3D router looks like a pea shooter now!! LOL!!

Too cool.

OK, well once again we went nowhere for vacation....

However, it did work out for me to start and hopefully finish the CNC router electronic upgrade project that has really bloomed into a much larger event than I had imagined.

So, after doing yard work (still more needs to be done), extensive Pool maintenance (done for the season!!), buying a new TV for the family and a surround sound system and getting all that crap to work, I finally got a moment to work on MY project.

I've only squeezed in one bike ride too....

Anyway, here is a snapshot of what I am working on.... The schematic is half in my head, and half on paper..... I'll be doing a major walk through of every termination and control scheme prior to firing it up and pushing the "I believe" button....

Basic layout

Penetrations are a pain...

Some of the wiring installed, mostly DC power, AC power, step and direction signals.... time to go jump in the pool and take a break!

The picture doesn't do justice to the amount of work performed so far!!

I'll keep whacking away at it!!

Slow, but I am off the rest of the week, so I should get very closet to complete. Boss just told us we'll be going on OT here at work through to the New Year so I'll be turning into a pumpkin again and disappearing for a few months.

Got to get her done!
