Streamer rolling machine?

Streamer rolling machine?
I read somewhere that Hat Trick designed and made a streamer rolling machine many years ago. I just tried rolling streamers using a variable speed hand drill for the first time and there is NO WAY that I'm going to be able to get good results using that technique. Based on my first attempt, Dr Evil's pre-rolled streamers are a bargain. But of course, I still want to have some kind of gadget that will let me roll multiple streamers at a time. Mike, did you ever post plans for your machine? If so are they available somewhere? Thanks.

Re: Streamer rolling machine?
There used to be one on the Workshop, but it looks like the link is broken. If you want to participate, we can have a streamer rolling party at my place; I need to do some for the upcoming season.

Doug Goldman made a nice one out of coroplast. If you email him, he may be able to send or post some pictures. If you don't hear from him pretty quick, you could call him.

Ed, a "party" to my mind conjures up images of the mass consumption of frosty adult barley beverages. Unfortunately, that mass consumption may not be compatible with getting much done in the way of streamer making... It might be a good idea anyway, however.Ed Kettler wrote:If you want to participate, we can have a streamer rolling party at my place;

That part occurs AFTER we are done with the power tools!gsjames wrote:Ed, a "party" to my mind conjures up images of the mass consumption of frosty adult barley beverages. Re: Streamer rolling machine?
Please if you could get some pics of a machine that would be great. Here is what we did to get the Pearl Harbor event going.
(note ...They were pre tied!!!)
This was short notice. and a lot of fun hanging and helping out but a machine would be nice.

Re: Streamer rolling machine?
I tried to make a streamer rolling machine but never got it to work well. It was suppossed to roll 10 at a time. Main problem was keeping the tension on each roll the same. To little tension and the roll got to big and therefore was long. To tight and the roll was to small and also short. I was counting revolutions to set the length. The pre-rolled streamers I sell are rolled by hand with a drill. It just takes practice and a lot of patience if you need to roll a lot of them! You too can roll a perfect streamer!

Re: Streamer rolling machine?
With my first rolling experience the trouble I had was the streamer measurement and tension. If you start with a 30' measurement from roll to drill, tension during the rolling will cause the streamer materiel to stretch and you end up with a longer than 30' rolled streamer.
The trick is finding the right streamer measurement and the right amount of tension to come up with a 30' rolled streamer.

Re: Streamer rolling machine?
I sit 15 ft from a ladder back chair and thread the crepe from the roll on a peg next to me, through the back of the chair and back to my seat. I pull on the streamer to take out the stretch and then cut 1/2 through the streamer for a 30 foot of pre-stretched ribbon. When I roll the streamer on the drill, the streamer breaks at the cut I made and I have a new end in my fingers. Stretch, cut, and roll the next. I get at least 11 streamers per roll of crepe.

Re: Streamer rolling machine?
I put 2 chairs with an axle with a piece of PVC pipe between at about 15 '. I measure and get a good accurate mark at about 27' of steamer, I then slip the end of the crepe into the drill and put a clothes pin on the streamer at the mark and roll it up, when the clothes pin returns to me I snap the streamer at that point, move the clothes pin down to the streamer on the mark and go again, again, again, again, again, again!

Re: Streamer rolling machine?
Rick,
Are you putting tension with your fingers as the streamer is rolling onto the drill?

Re: Streamer rolling machine?
Danny, Yes I do, but I've found that even doing that will result in too long a streamer so I go for 27' and they come out about perfect.

Re: Streamer rolling machine?
That's pretty much the consensus. I should have better luck next time following yours and the others advice.
Thanks all.
