Receiver Battery Sources???

Post by sgilkey »

Does anybody have a source for Rx batteries that they recommend? Cycle testing is showing that I have a LOT of Rx packs to replace. The quality of 300-400 mah NiMh cells (2/3AAA) has been questionable on the last few batches I have bought, which were not crom Cheap Battery Packs (CBP). The cells I've gotten in the past from CBP seem to work pretty well but they are often out of stock. They are currently listing a 400 2/3AAA at 1.25 a cell. If anybody has a source they would recommend for these kinds of cells (or similar in size/capacity) that has good pricing and quality, please post. Thanks!

I have not had any problems with the packs from Radical RC. The only ones that "went" bad sat around for years in a "junk" box waiting to be put back to use. The price has gone up since the last time I bought some, but I would still buy them if needed.

We just bought a bunch of the 6 volt packs below. We have not put them to use yet but price and service is good. The capacity is larger but they do also have smaller packs. The weight is pretty darn good for 700 mAh packs. Very small AAA packs.

$5.99 Each

$14.95 for two of the 6 volt packs.

I also get my packs from Batteryspace and will buy more when needed. A couple are on their 3 season and 1 is made from 2 packs that had a bad cells due to midairs. I charge them at 1/2C and cycle them a couple times a season. These packs didn't get to good of reviews from others a couple years ago but I don't have any complaints. Just don't hit them too big a charge rate so they get hot during the recharge.

I bought a bunch of 4x AAA from Batteries America. http://www.batteriesamerica.com/ The reason I did is that they offer Sanyo Enloop cells. They aren't cheap but the are really good batteries, and I figure the investment is worth it. I have a bunch of BatterySpace packs but they didn't survive the year and don't have much capacity left.

I have been using the 1 cell lipo all this year and I like them. I am using 350 mah, and I get 2 flights out of one. The set up only weights .6 oz. For open B I use 450 mah just to be on the safe side. The only problem I have seen is in a hard crash the regulator stops working, but for $2.99 just buy a bunch of them.

Here is the voltage regulator

Here are the batteries. They are out of them

Buttercup, that's an interesting solution- how does that single bare cell hold up to crashes?? Brian's had a few prangs with his e-planes, generally not as bad as a typical combat crash, and he's damaged and "puffed" his share of batteries. Do you use any type of protection for the LiPo cell?

I can't speak for Bob but I looked over his setup at LSN and it is the cats meow.....so simple and extremely light, not to mention ungodly cheap.....even if you foul up a couple packs, you are only out a couple bucks each

The battery weighs nothing....the voltage thingy adds a little weight. I'm not sure the whole setup even weighs a half ounce.

I have been using the 2/3 AAA Kan 350 packs from Cheap batt packs for years and I have no complaints, but if can save a half ounce and $7.00 per pack using this setup then I'm all for it.

They seem to hold up well. I have them in the wing with just tape over them, so I can change them quickly. I am going to try the other volt reg from Hobby king to see if they can take a jolt better.

Here is the covered regulator

DON'T FORGET THE TAPE
I was test flying my new open B ships, and I was seeing how many outside loops it would do and all of a sudden she went strait in from about 100 feet. Come to find out there was no tape over the battery. OOPS

Now THERE'S a good hint!!! I can still picture Brian wringing out a couple of his e-planes when ZING out flies the battery pack. An uncontrolled descent of the now much lighter (and out of balance) airframe is followed by a search for the ejected battery!!
