The Brownings had a higher rate of fire than the 20mm cannon, plus the Jug had 8 of them, so there was some crushing firepower delivered when the Jug lit up. The 20mm was explosive, as was the 30mm. They tested the Mk108 30mm against a hulk Spitfire fuselage, hitting it in the center of the roundel. All that was left was the upper and lower stringers[:0]. Interesting to look at the development of aircraft armament and armor during the war: 8x.303 to 4x20mm or 4x30mm; plain tanks to armored and self sealing; stolen boiler plate to built in crew armor.
