Just built my Go Devil and have it ready for Mile-Hi Maddness next weekend here in Colorado.

The GD is short coupled, dual boom Bandit. I like it a lot, but also like some aspects of the Bandit as well.

Being short coupled the GD can turn fast, but is also a bit touchy with respect to elevator and throttle combinations. Hey, you want a twitchy elevator, you got one. (Of course I tend to set my CG back a bit) The Bandit is a lot more even with respect to throttle settings and elevator sensitivity.

The GD also has all your radio components enclosed and is easy to launch overhand style. It also does not cause your pipe to scrape on landings. I really like this since some times we need to launch downwind due to field safety lines and the extra foot or two of altitude on an overhand launch can be very helpful.

The Bandit can float in on landings a bit easier, but your radio gear is left out hanging in the breeze.

I expect to fly both my Go Devil and Bandit at Mile-Hi maddness next weekend and so will be able to give a side-by-side comparison in action.

Mine is almost done too. I may have to fly it before the event thought. I didn't finish it till Sunday night, I need to balance it. I saw in the photo that the battery was on top of the fuse. I have a Hayes tank, it didn't seem to fix well.

Victor,

The Hayes tank does not fit well at all. I got a DuBro, cause that is what the LHS had, and it fits pretty well. The machined recess is based on a Sullivan tank.

I think a Du Bro tank is what I used and it fit fine. Others will fit, but you just need to cut out a bit of the lower fuse section.

Snake, I wouldn't bother test flying it at all until the first official match Saturday (if we are in the same group). [:D]

Stan originally put the battery up front but then moved it inside. I have done the same and it flies great with it inside, right behind the tank. Just need to make sure the CG balances ok. I have not found the CG to be that critical, but then I tend to fly with rearward CGs anyway. Watch it on first flights as it is pretty touchy on elevator, especially on takeoff. My elevator travel is about 3/16 max.

Should be fun with some new Go Devils at Mile-Hi Maddness. Will need to give Stan a report on how well they do.

OK , Im gonna throw my .02 in here on the Go Devil. I got 2 of these bad boys and put em together to do some testing for Stan.

The Devil got its first real trial by fire this past weekend as far as durability testing. I put 2 of these fuses in the ground at full throttle with no wing attached after midairs and after re-inspecting everything the ONLY thing that needs replaced is the forward wing dowel and my props.

I spoke with Stan this morning and discussed the forward wing dowel. The wood dowel because of its length cannot handle the impact forces and breaks. I suggested a solid fiberglass rod or solid carbon fiber rod for the front dowel. This is the only issue I really could find on this airframe.

I flew 2 rounds with winglets on the wings and 2 rounds without winglets and really saw no noticeable difference in yaw stability.

I had three midairs. One in each round 3, 4 and 5. I flew out of the one in round 3 but ended up landing due to a left aileron that had the control horn broken. Im running dual aileron servos and still had control but it wasn't very safe with the winds I have no idea who or what I hit. Round 4's midair was me and Kelvin who was flying the Falcon ARF. The impact broke my forward wing dowel and released the wing which floated down unscathed, the fuse lawn darted at about a 60 degree angle and bounced a good 20 feet to a rest. The fuse was undamaged other than the dowel. I think Kelvin Falcon was pretty much toast. The round 5 midair came 15 seconds after start combat and was a impact with a lethal weapon. Again the wing dowel broke and the wing came down fine. The fuse again at about a 60 degree angle impacted and bounced to a rest. Same damage to the dowel but I lost my fuel tank and the fuse had 2 prop cuts on it but is still very airworthy. The Lethal weapons wing separated and was fine but the Jett muffler had the bolts broken off in it.

The Devil can turn with or inside everything that was flying Saturday except Lees wings. I dont think its possible to turn with Lee unless your flying a wing and I gave up trying a long time ago and have always played the angles with Lee instead of pure pursuit.

What was flying Saturday you ask? How bout Avengers, Dons Bats, Lees Wings, Wasps, Lethal Weapons, Bandits, and a gutter coro combo that Brandon has been flying very well this year. Did I take first...No... however 1532 aint bad for the 4 complete rounds I flew. The Go-Devil is definately a step forward from the Bandit. I don't know what Stan is gonna do to top this one.

My dowels fix very tight, I may have to enlarge the holes for easy replacement. I did pick up a 6 oz slant tank for it; I should pick up an extra one. All I need is one test flight JJ![}:)]

Where is every one attaching the streamer?

This problem has nothing to do with the dowels fitting tight, mine fit very snug also. They are breaking on impact and releasing the wing in the midair creating a lawn dart out of the fuse. The wood isnt a durable enough material for the forward hold down. Luckily mine came down under the combat arena and not in the pits or spectator area.

Im just attaching the string thru one of the lightening holes at the rear of the fuse.

I opened up the holes for the dowels a bit with a 1/4" drill. They still fit snugly. Might switch over to a fiberglass or carbon arrow shaft in the future.

I always put a hole in the back of the V-Stab for the string.

Snake, I suggest you make the string mount real easy so you can replace the foot or two of string that will be left on your plane easily after each round. [;)]
