Introducing the "Battle Falcon"

Post by gsjames »

Here is a work-in-progress. I'm taking a basic Battle Axe fuselage, enlarging and sweeping the vertical tail, eliminating the radio/battery box and mounting a Falcon wing on the rails. The battery will be a 5-cell flat pack in the bottom of the wing, buried in between the wing and the rails. The receiver will be a 2.4 with short antenna wires, so no big deal there. Dual aileron servos. This way I can use the same wing/servo/battery/receiver unit on both SSC and Open B fuselages. It also dramatically increases the area of the wing to reduce the turning radius. I think that the weigh saving from getting rid of the battery box will offset the additional weight of the larger wing. We shall see. I hope to maiden one this weekend if the snow lets up. We've got 6-10" of snow in Dallas!!!

A special thanks to Chris Gunter for the engine CAD model

Gary don't forget to put some Goop on that vertical after scuffing it with #60 sandpaper. Don Grissom and I have been exchanging streamers in Realflight G5, along with some potential newbies to RC Combat. You got yours yet?

Not yet, Bob. I'm too cheap! But I'm weakening. Only a few weeks until the real thing, however

You got that right, Evan. I've got a really bad case of cabin fever. From what we see in the NPS scores year after year, there's an "old purple Avenger" saddled up behind EVERYONE, most of the time. :D I understand that J.T. is your next door neighbor. He's a long-time friend of mine. Small world, ain't it? We need to get him to start flying combat.
