variations of approved fighters

Post by Bruce B »

Is it "legal" to do variations of fighters? More specific I want to do a p-38 in an f-5f photo recon version. While the photo recon plane wasn't a fighter it's self, it is based on a p-38 which is. Just wanting to clarify.

Not so fast Bob! The plane needs to be on the "Approved List" to fly in 2948. Does not apply if we are talking 2610.
My take is that if it is the physical shape of a P38, but the color scheme is unique, then it should be allowed to fly. Rule purists would want to see photos that document the color scheme as being genuine. But do we have any of them around anymore?
OTOH 2610 has banned "Trainer" colors or "War weary" aircraft, which is why I don't fly it any more.
If we're not careful we will legislate combat into extinction!
