Post by Old Erkki »

Here in Europe we ha have started to fly RC aircombat also with 1:8 WW 1 planes. You can find proposal for rules in German home page in regeln paragrph
http://www.aircombat.de/.

Just to get idea what is going on here is also two links where you can find some photos and video

Is there any kind of interest on your side of pond?

That is some cool video! Who kits the planes? Those look like they'd be fun for sport flying as well.

We've talked a bit about World War I flying, but we have not been able to get any traction with the idea yet. It comes up every once and a while, but we can't seem to agree on parameters, and the interest has not really materialized in to planes yet.

Please keep us posted, and maybe we will re-kindle some interest

Greetings from Finland

Only kit that I know is Sopwith Pup by DB models. Most pilots build them from scratch. Collision rate is really much lower than in normal Combat, so planes last much longer.

I think that Canadians had at least some kind of activity in WW1 combat, but I do not know any person of contact.

Certainly hope that you can materialize it

Old Erkki,

We've started doing some work in the Dallas area on World War I planes. Here are a couple of links:

These were designed and built by Lee Liddle. We flew a little combat today with my new SE.5 against Lee's Fokker D.VII. Talk about cool! Roy was taking photos, so I hope that he gets them posted soon.

Ed,

Much as I hate to admit this, the Canadians already have a rules structure and some workable designs for WWI combat. They are limiting the engine size and essentially flying 1/8th scale models. I think if you check out the MAAC site and look under the combat committee, you will find the WWI rules.

Its not exactly a combat plane but it is a fun one to fly. AMA Hall of Fame Member, Fred Reese, designed the Golden Oldie over 20 years ago and it looks and flies today as well as it ever did.

Although I am not flying competition combat right now, this plane would do very well in a contest. It has an OS .52 4C, weighs 5-1/2 lbs and can be flown low, slow and close in very well.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
