I flew against Lee and Lester yesterday (after scaring off a pattern guy[}:)]) and the IAR was very competitive. Lester needs to do some re-engineering of his battery installation, otherwise he's good to go.
His design is pretty rugged ... he snapped my wing panel in a midair. I don't recommend using 1/2 ounce fiberglass and Polycril after this episode, as the FG seems to have not made much of a difference on wing strength and is time consuming to apply. I'll have the bird repaired tonight or tomorrow.

Yep it was a fun day. We got in about 5 heats, but the last couple were without Ed due to the mid-air. The IAR was very competitive even though it is about 31oz. With the short nose, Lester had to add 5oz of weight just behind the motor to get the CG right. He`s planning two more with a few mods to the battery installation and adjustments to help hit the CG more easily.
