Spitfire from Raidentech

Post by Lee Liddle »

Is it just me or are these specs not perfect for 3696. All except for the balsa airframe of course.

I think that manufacturers monitor our web site and try to make things that will work for our events. This is just too close.

I`m sure based on our R&R that the plane flies great. I just wouldn`t count on it making too many rounds in combat.

I think the parkflyer segment is growing by leaps and bounds, and they are finding the "1 meter" wingspan to be a good point. The big problem is the weight...I'm sure that plane flies great at it's listed weight of 18 oz...how's it going to fly and hold up with 10 extra ounces of lead?

As far as balsa and ply, sure it's not as tough as foam and tape, but at 3696 speeds and weights, I don't think it is nearly as much as an issue...Cost is an option too...at 60 bucks, you can afford to keep a couple of those laying around, and CA makes wuick work of repairing them.

I'd be willing to pay that much for a plane finished as nicely as that...of course I'm a scale kind of guy. and think of all the work you don't have to do to get it ready to fly...

I guess the biggest advantage combat wise is a source ofr cowls and canopies...World models has an E Mustang that might be a good source for canopies and cowls for 2548, as does Hyperion, albeit a bit expensive.

What we need, I think, is a company that can do injection foam molding to use a high density foam and make planes to this size...Hotwire can only do so much...The bathtub company I once worked for used a polystyrene foam that came in two parts-when mixed it would expand greatly...it was very dense(about as much as higher density pink foams) and would have been great if I'd had molds to use...

At $60 I`m tempted too. It is the season for getting gifts after all.

Midairs in 3696 are rare enough that I`d put it in harm`s way.

Beautiful little plane too.

As far as weight goes..... It has the wing area needed. I`m sure it would fly fine ar 28oz.

Here you can put a P-51 together out of parts for $45. The span is only 34.5" And they have a Zero too.

I'm working on the CNC machine right now, so airframes aren't so much what I'm interested in, as the hard parts like cowls and canopies.

The HOB kits usually have a vacuformed top deck/canopy, but the cowls are generally made of balsa/ply. I had one of the 1/12th Mustang kits, but it's long gone...

I did contact them about parts, and most of the vacuformed turtle decks/canopies seem to go for about 8 bucks, plus 8 to ship.

I had thought about hybridizing GWS fuses with hot wire cut wings, then assembled using typical combat methods...the GWS fuse kits are generally about 20 bucks.

Yep , just putting this out there as options for those who don`t have the time or ability to scratch build. They look like they would work for 3696 for only $50 to $60 fro the airframe. Not bad.
