Some awesome tape

Post by Bruce B »

Hey guys, I found this stuff by accident, but after using it for repairs and new builds for a while now, I'm convinced. It's called hurricane tape. It's lighter than bidi and easier to work with. It takes a prop hit very good and doesn't tear beyond the point of contact with the prop. You have to use a sharp knife blade or scissors to cut it. One of those cheap tape dispensers won't hold up. I'll see how the fleet holds up this weekend and compare to bidi a little more. http://www.bunkerinc.com/about.htm

I bought a roll on Bruce's recommendation. I was hoping that spray paint would stick to it so that I could just cover the entire airplane with it, but alas, the paint rubbed off after a few days. RATS.

ACE Hardware has it in their warehouse. They don't have it at the local stores, but they can get it quickly. I just bought one roll to test it out, but they sell it in 12 roll cases.

I've actually just started using it on some wings, and found out it will not tear, heck you better have a dang sharp pair of scissors to cut it.

It can be prop cut, but will not tear.

Sticks really well, irons down good, lighter than BiDi.

I think this is the next greatest step in survivability.

This stuff is great!! I am going to give up my pink duck tape for it. So if anybody can come up with a light pink additive I can put on my wings that would be great.

Don't know about lite pink, but I do have a product that will leave
a lite yellow color on your wings. Hope to see you sat. with the
empty chair.

Lighter than BiDi sounds Great. What are you getting for a weight.

From the specs it looks to be twice as thick as BiDi at 12Mils.

Hey Bob, you missing a decimal point in there? 8oz for 3.5 feet of tape sounds AWFUL heavy to me!

I dont have any official numbers on the weight yet but i use the same amount as bidi on a wing and my planes arent overweight. Coming in at 42-43 oz. I can tell you that I made 10 rounds at the texoma nats with the same wing. this was with two midairs so hard it knocked the wing completely off of the plane. I also had multiple" love taps" that I was sure was gonna destroy stuff...well ,I guess i did destroy some other peoples stuff(sorry Evan!) The tape has some prop cuts in it and the covering was torn off in places but the wing will fly again. In short, I love the stuff! Try it, you won't be sorry!

No appology necessary, Bruce. 16 rounds and that's the only wing that needs some TLC. :D

I've built 2 wings with Bruce's tape and like it except for hinges. Over/Under hinges and I don't care for the way it goes around corners. Might be just fine but I don't have enough flights on the wings to decide yet.

Wow Bruce - Sounds Great, picked up a roll and have re-covered a wing using it inplace of BiDi. Will see how it holds up. Running a hot iron over it seems to really seal it in good and pulls it into the corners.

Missing covering from a "love tap" - Some one must really LOVE YA to rub it off. What are you using for covering?
