B-52 Crashes

Post by Which_way_is_up »

Not really combat related but still interesting. This beautiful eight turbine powered B-52 crashed recently, I believe in England.

If you've got a broadband connection you can view a video of the take-off and crash. http://home.comcast.net/~tail_end_charlie/b52crash2.wmv

That thing looks like it had problems from the moment it took off. It was very unstable

Krike. That's the first time I've seen an RC plane create a plume of smoke after crashing. 8 turbines, I wonder if they ran on kerosene.

Mark, from what I've read about it and seen on video clips, it is powered by kerosene/JP-4 fuel. It had 8 turbines (time $3-4K each). In the earlier tapes it seemed to be pretty stable. From looking at the tentage/tarps in the foreground before takeoff it looked pretty gusty. Not sure what caused the crash though. Pretty sad[V]

WOW, too bad. Super nice plane reduced to rubble. I guess that is why I don't build fancy planes.

Man that guy could have built like a thousand combat planes for what he put into that big bird. It's a shame to see that much work go down but like my r/c mentor told me early on all these planes have a shelf life.
