Dave,
Welcome to RC Combat! There are two current scale classes: 2610 and 2548. 2610 uses planes that are 1/12th scale +/-10% that were available between 1935 and 1955. 2548 uses fighters that are scaled to 48" for singles and 60" for twins, with a date range between 1939 and 1945. 2610 is an established set of rules, while 2548 is provisional, meaning it is still under development.
2610 rules can be found at http://www.rccombat.com/rules_scale.asp
and 2548 rules can be found at http://www.rccombat.com/rules_scale_2548.asp
To find where an event is being held near you, please check the Contest Calendar at http://www.rccombat.com/events/index.asp. To see some examples of scale combat aircraft, you might want to check out the Scale Forum http://www.rccombat.com/forum/forum.asp?FORUM_ID=36

I am in Sevierville TN. Same County as Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg TN. For the past 2 years the local club "The Smoky Mtn Aero Club" has Hosted a Fun Fly in coordination with The Tennessee Museum of Aviation. Combat fliers would be welcome wouldn't be any kind of competition just kinda demo/type fun fly combat. There will be food, flying will be at the warbird museum at the local airport. all registered pilots are offered free admission to the warbird museum for the 2 days. There will be flight Demos of full scale warbirds assigned to the warbird museum.
There is a million things here for the family to do while the guys fly, Dollywood, Amusement Parks, Outlet Malls, and The Great Smoky Mtn National Park. Harrahs has a Casino just across the mountain in Cherokee NC if you wanna gamble. Countless number of motels and restaurants within "MINUTES" of the Museum.
June 11th & 12th
If any one is interested in attending let me know and I will get you the Info.
Thanks.....Dave

I have a Dozen questions. I'd like to see a spread sheet type of post showing what you guys are flying such as motors, motor displacement, most popular classes being flown, what type of aircraft, radio equipment, how and where are the streamers attached, what sticky stuff is being used on the leading edge. IF THIS INFO IS SOMEWHERE ELSE LET ME KNOW. Come on guys, I'm interested, but need some help making up my mind. I don't want to attend a meet for info I wanna get started as soon as possible.[:)]
Thanks.....Dave

Dave,
Where are you from. You don't exactly have to show up at a meet for that information. In many locations, you can just show up on a day when some other fellows are flying combat. A day of watching and shooting the breeze with fellow combat pilots can give you more info than a week on these forums. If you show up at a place guys are flying combat, more times than not, they'll be the ones to introduce themselves before you even step onto the field, so get out there. This forum has a great search feature, just search on "sticky stuff" or "receiver" or "transmitter" and you'll pull back some great info. SSC is the most popular and the one thats easiest to enter. Check out this beginners guide on Georgecombat.com, it should get you started...

There are alot of great kits out there. Many times the choices are best made after finding out what people local to you fly. A well setup average flying plane will fly better that a poorly setup killer kit, so fly something somebody near you has experience setting up, and you'll be competitive in no time...

Lots of choices and a lot depends on where you are and what is going on in your area and how much traveling you want to do to get to major contests.
For scale 2548 is rapidly gaining popularity. Most popular engines are 25 FX'x and Webra 25's. A lot of guys run Norvels also.
Sticky stuff Tanglefoot bird or pest repelent is great. Find it at gardening centers in the summer. Bird stuff is better when it's warm. Pest stuff is better when it's cold.
Tie the streamer to the tail! Almost any way will work. I just loop it around the fuselage in front of the tail group.
I've got some 2548 kits available. www.hattrickrc.com
