There are a couple of different ways you can build 2548 planes. If you look through the 2548 Scale forum area, you will find these to build articles (and others) useful:

Note that I have since replaced the wooden crutch with a carbon fiber arrow shaft embedded in an HDPE (high density polyurethane (cutting board) engine mount. The basic construction is very similar. The Me-110 aluminum channel in the Me-110 has been replaced with carbon fiber strips in the next version.
Chris Quinn developed an aluminum rail crutch for his warbirds, and in the following article Bob Loescher shows how he set up his P-40s using Chris' design

If you are looking for plans, Joe Thompson and friends have created a library http://www.rccombat.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=10968
My planes use a Clark YH or similar airfoils. Some folks are using the Eppler E203.
Bender sells a 2548 P-40C http://www.rccombat.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=11439 that might fill your requirements for getting started. It flew well at the Dixie contest recently.
The minimum weight for single engine planes in 3.25 pounds, and twins are 4 pounds. If you are asking about engine weights, someone else will have to jump in and help you out.
Where are you located? Maybe we can help you find some folks near you for combat.
Best of luck!
Ed
