No on this one. An approved list is needed to keep planes even.

For now, I agree. I actually think it's not needed, and that there are better ways to go about it than the current list.

I might more inclined towards a rule proposal that said something like "aircraft that shot down X enemy planes, and had at least Y see action" or something like that. It might open the list a bit, and if X and Y are smallish, there might be some oddball semi-experimental planes that would become legal, but at least they would have some kind of historical validity as a combat aircraft.

I agree that the list should stay. Kirk, I don`t know off-hand exactly what the criteria is right now, but there are some numbers in place like X and Y. If planes meet the numbers, they can be added to the list, but I think there should be a list. The list is plenty long, and it can be used to keep planes out of the mix which would dominate the event.
Looks like we all agree that this proposal stops here.

If the list is, in fact, based entirely on reasonable values, then the list is fine. I probably think the numbers should be lower than Ed thinks though. I personally and one of the guys who likes to see the unusual, unknown planes. I like the "what's that" factor, and learning about aircraft I don't already know all about. While I think Ed might enjoy combat between a pile of maybe 10 differnet planes, I like variety. But I agree that the proposal is not a good one at this time, that's for sure.
