Power plant for 2548

Post by pe2fan »

Hi guys,

I am looking into a 2548 plane and was wondering if there is a concensus 1 or 2 engines that are the best for these birds?

If you check the Limited B thread, the same answer applies there. I think the fx 25 and magnum 28xl appear to be the two.

OS25FX is the engine to run. I like Norvels too, they work well, but since the manufacturer is out of pocket right now it would be hard to get repair parts, so that leaves the OS.

Buy one or two, break them in for about say, 4-5 tanks of fuel on the ground, and then run them on a good castor-synthetic blend with 10-15 percent nitro and you'll do just fine.

Best 2-stroke in the history of modeling, if ya ask me.

The max displacement for 2548 is .25, unlike LimB where it is .29. So the Mag 28XL is not a good candidated for 2548.

Thanks Scott. I must have been asleep at the switch.

Michael, are you restricting your question to single engine planes? I could read your question differently (like "are twins better than singles?"). If that is the question, having flown both, singles are much better as the hassle factor is much lower, and you don't require a crew to operate them. That being said, twins do have a high "cool factor"[:D]

Yes, I could be tempted by a twin. I need to get to Gaithersburg and get Serg to let me fly his PE3. He keeps forgetting to bring it to Laurel.
