Terry, I`ve been surprised how much of our noise is prop noise. I`ve grown to crave the howl of a high revving prop without the ic "background noise" LOL.
Nate, there actually aren`t many choices for motors in this range. Since I found the Quantum Drive motors last year at UH for $35 I bought a bunch of them and found 2200mah battery combos that adapted them to each class. That was a HUGE step in making E a viable option in all classes. The Ammo 35-50-1500 is almost the same spec motor and on sale at Tower Hobbies.
The other big step has been finding reliable, good performing 2200 liposin the $10 to $11 per cell price range. I`ve been really happy with the Loong Max brand from UH (now Hobby City).
BTW I recharged the batteries (which were still perfectly balanced) after that flight and had only used about 1550mah (aprox 60%) of the capacity. I didn`t run the top off of the batteries before the flight. The plane did seem to slow down a little after the first 30sec or so and then hold performance. It would have been better to run the plane for about 15 to 20 sec and let the rpm settle before setting the rpm.
