Charging for a 2650mah lipo

Post by combatgoblin »

I am using a 4s 20c 2650mah battery rated at 2c for charging at a 2c charge rate it takes 30-35 minutes to charge.
I was looking at the equivilent nano pack which is 5c can anybody tell me the time it would take to charge this and at what amperage?

C is capacity, 2650 mAh or 2.650 Amps.
5x2.650 is 13.25 Amps max charge rate.

A 4 cell pack is 16.8 Volts.
16.8x13.25 is 222.6 Watts. You will need a charger capable of this to be able to charge at 13.25 Amps.

The rating is based per hour(60 minutes).
60/5 is 12 minutes, theoretically.
Realistically, it will take longer for a fully discharged battery because the charge rate gets decreased as the battery nears full charge to get it topped off fully.

I use an icharger 306b.
If you are doing this for SSC, I'd make sure you size the battery so you can get much more than a combat flight time out of it.
I size my SSC batteries so I only use about 60% of it. Otherwise, the battery voltage drops so much that your RPMS drop like a rock at the end. I use 2 3S nanotechs or Gens Ace batteries which will charge at 5C.
Usually, I'll charge them at about 3C and it will still be done in 10 mins cause they don't discharge that much in flight.
When I fly electric, I usually launch when there is less than a minute of combat and climb out at about 1/2 throttle to conserve the battery yet still climb to get to a satisfactory altitude.
My 2948 setup was not so, I sized it to be around 80% discharge and one time last fall, I flew too long before start combat and toasted a $60 battery.

Other than I never miss a "start combat" with Electric , its a general performance handicap in my opinion. In a climb or loop I can hang, but a straight chase, the Nitro guys unload in the air and the electric does not.

good luck.
