Yeah, it is wicked. I was into it a short while back, taking a break from combat, and it is really challenging to fly that fast. You actually fly on the backside of the wind. You launch up into the wind, get some altitude, and then dive down into the dead air on the backside of the mountain. You bank up heading back toward the wind shear at the top of the hill, and then you literally bounce/bank off of the wind shear diving back down into dead air on the backside. You just continually bank energy, and man look out! The fastest I have seen it personally was in the 120 - 140 mph range, and it is awesome. The planes undergo so much stress, that they actually implode/explode at speed.

Oh, they're in Germany. Our West coast guys are in the 220's last I read. They really rocket around.

I was thumbing through a sloping mag that I picked up at the AMA convention and theres a blurb about a guy in SoCal who hit 260 and change!!!!!

They're looking to break 300!

That is freakin' AWESOME!

I think it's my turn now.

Sean, problem with us is, we'll be diving in on each other trying to chase each other. Or, just dive bombing the poor bastard farthest out on the hill. I want to build somehting too, the Moth is nice, but I want something with more wing.

Terry, I'm building an M60 clone right now. 60" wing, MH45 airfoil, All EPP with a carbon spar. I'm also going to add a slot at the CG for ballast. I've seen some of those EPP DSers come up to 4lbs or more.

Once I get it done I'll have to come down and rip it up a little bit.

Re: DS'ers finally break the 200mph -- no make that 500mph

I had to resurrect this ancient thread, because the new speed record, 7 years later, is 505 mph  . Yep...that's an unpowered RC plane!

Here's the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7gL9uA-McY

Is breaking the sound barrier coming in the next 7 years?
