Scott, the other thing is that it takes about 550 to 575 watts to turn the big props at 14,500. If you only have about 11v then you are going to have to pull at least 50 amps. A pair of the Apex 10c 3S2000`s will not do that. It would take 3 of them. Then your battery pack cost goes to over $100 with the "cheap" batteries. You`d also need a CC60A ESC which costs about the same as the 45aHV. So t cost would be the same. Like Drew says. more horsepower costs more money with electrics.
I think that $100 for a flight pack for 2548 is pretty reasonable. You should get 100 cycles (flights) so that`s a buck a flight. Pretty cheap entertainment. It`s just that you have to pay for it up front.
For IC you`d need about 6oz of fuel per flight. That`s 600oz divided by oz per gallon 128 equals about 4.5 gallons of fuel at about $20 per gallon is $90. Throw in a few glow plugs and you`re at $100 for 100 flights for IC as well. The motor costs the same, so the only additional expense is the $135 for the esc. It should last just about forever. Castle is great about replacing burned up units, if that ever should happen.
Fire-em up boys.
