Straw Poll vote:.....

Post by C/F »

In a failed attempt to debate this topic I would like to do a simple vote on this subject matter:

<i><b>Would the inception of a Hershey Bar Wing (HBW), ie, No tapers in any dimension of span/chords/thickness rule as a provisional class have any effect of slowing things down? Yes/No, No debate neccesary... </b></i>

If there are those that would choose to debate the subject matter please weigh in on the No tapers thread and lets keep this one a clean matter of record.........

Also gut response - limited effect (if any). Not worth alienating the guys with LTWs. (I have some of both - SPADS and Bat-tricks). FWIW a SPAD dog-fighter with a 48x9 wing was just as fast as the LTWs at our Lim B demo at the Detroit field last weekend.

Mike, I don`t think a spec wing alone would achieve enough speed reduction. I think that RPM`s and prop pitch are the keys to slower speeds. A spec wing would outlaw so many designs that I think the results would be negitive overall. I don`t have a problem with span and cord limits as long as they are broad enough to include most current designs. I think Doc`s suggestions in the other thread sound good.

No, but they whey wouldn't keep me from flying a class either, and I think they would be stronger.

No.

1. It waste material.

2. It does not slow things down. (check out 130 mph Hoffelt Monoboom C/L combat)

3. Vanishing point/single template foam cutting no work.

At some point, you have to forget what people have built..bite the bullet and start over. SSC is an example of that, and it worked.

I think my wing area suggestion will work.

We had another example at Des Moines when Jerry took first in SSC with his new larger area SSC wings. A real improvemant in performance!
