AP engines anyone use them

Post by dgoetz692002 »

I have not yet flown in a ssc contest but was looking at starting so in looking for equipment I found the AP engine .15 yellow jacket.
Does anyone have experience with this engine and if so how does this engine rate compared to OS LA 15 and Thunder Tiger GP15

Oops I didn't mean to do that.

I believe Lou tested one in the early days of ssc and it wasn,t very good.
If memory serves me correctly it was a couple thousand rpms down due to exhaust restrictions
Best advice is to put it on a stand with a 8-3 prop ( after break in ) and see if you can get to 17500 rpms
If so slap it on a plane.
I have never seen one in compatition.

I have one, in a drawer somewhere. Never could get it to perform with the LA. It will never be on one of my combat ships.

I think they have carb and exhaust from a smaller engine .09 IIRC. They tweaked it in the RCgroups to perform 16 000 with 7/4 but they drilled carb and exhaust a one number sized bigger.
