I've changed airports to the beautiful model field in CA. No game tokens and other such nonsense. Don Grissom showed up last night.(He just got his) We plan to be online about 7 EST. Get in a few flights before the super bowl.

Hey a quick question to anyone and everyone concerning G5, a fellow I know buys and sell games for these gaming consoles like Xbox 360, PSP3, etc., and in a box of games that resultly bought he found what he describes as a copy of Real Flight G5. He has no use for it and the people that buy games from him wouldn't be interested and so he was going to give it to me. But it looks like that there's a special dumb transmitter box that was suppose to originally have come with it. Is that true and can you get an adapter cable to hook up a "regular" transmitter say through the "trainer plug" and use instead?

You can take your radio and hook it up to the trainer port of their box (dummy) transmitter. That is for people that want to cycle their TX batteries or just like the feel of theirs better. When you load the disk, it asks for the serial number of the disk and the serial number of the box. I believe the disc you have will not work but would only land you behind bars.

Bob don't worry I don't think that I'll be going to jail any time soon.

My friend threw out the "cheap controller" as he called it and so he only has the software. So what you're telling me is that the software only works with or through the dummy transmitter that comes with the software? If that's the case I'll tell him to just throw the disc away too.

Yes, unfortunately you have to have BOTH the serialized disc and the serialized controller. You can use an older serialized controller for v3.0 and beyond, so don't throw away the disk if it's v 5. I can use it as a legal upgrade for my v 3.5 system.

Got to fly one-on-one against "Longhaul" at the Toledo Expo today, with the Real-Flight developers watching.
I got four cuts to Bob's two but I lost 25 points each for 4 "dumbthumbs"!
I still won 300 to 200 points but Bob will tell you he won as he did not have to rebuild.
The only "RealFlight" I have is the freebie that they give away with the Hobbico Nextstar so my experience with G "anything" is very limited.
(That's my excuse for the "dumbthumbs" and I'm sticking to it! )
First impressions were:- it's better than I expected!
The developers were impressed that we got six cuts in maybe 4 minutes - seems like it took them over an hour to get their first two!
I'm still hung up on $150 (show special price) for G5 so I didn't buy it. I have no upgrade path from the freebie - I'm also told even the interface cable will not work with the Nextstar/Futaba Tx with any other version.
So I won't be battling you guys on-line anytime soon!
But it was fun though

The interlink is usable as is Keith. I don't try to cycle my tx batteries by plugging it into the interlink. The feel may be slightly different from your tx but it's ready to go out of the box. I flew with two guys from Nova Scotia and one from LA as well as a Buckeye and three others last night. Great time and smack as they get better. Yes, you can train your kid or grad-kid on these things to same time and equipment. :D

I don't know what's going on with your set-up. I suggest you describe you stuff to the realflight tech guys with an email. They are pretty good about getting back with you.

Hey Bob,

What accomodations do you use when you go down to the Mid-America Champ? I would like to set something up before hand so I won't have to sleep outside while my planes are cozy in my pick-up...... :D Thanks

I got a room at the Motel 6. If you book on line you can save 10% using the click it button. It can be awfully hot and muggy in TN in June. I have tented at the field before and decided the comfort of a room was worth it.

5.5 just came out a few days ago as a free upgrade to your latest edition.

I finally bought the upgrade, but it turns out that my desktop computer is sooooo old that it doesn't run very well. I might be able to get by with a better graphics card, but I suspect that if I want to chase virtual streamers this winter that I'm going to have to invest in a new desktop. Rats! I'd rather spend the money on some more engines and servos.
