It may be a little cold for combat but there are other things to talk about.

Winter debrief 2009

Post by AIM »

Well for those of us in the north we have alternate hobbies for this time of year.
While it may not be combat related. It is combat PILOT related.
Eric and Scott Gilkey came down to do some hunting. What a great day! A few weeks ago they came down and we had a very poor day but this weekend we tried it again and boy did we score.
Scott nailed his first ever pheasant and Eric ended up with three solo kills on rabbits.
In the end we had 1 bird and 5 rabbits. (and two VERY whipped dogs)

After seeing his hand-eye coordination and his ability to lead flying targets, I am sure no target is safe from Eric! Congrats!

My dogs Gunner and Tori gave their all this weekend and are resting on the sofa as I type this. I gotta say that a couple of good dogs is hard to beat when it comes to hunting. They do all the work and are happy to do it. Here is a pic from a couple years back.

After the days hunt, Sean and his boys came over for some post hunt shooting. We did a turkey shoot, shot some clays and blasted some ice on the creek. It's amazing how much fun it is to shoot ice. About 200 rounds later we all just kicked back in the garage to BS.

What a great time! Thanks Aaron for hosting us, Eric was thrilled to say the least. When I shot the pheasant I had the same reaction as when i get a cut in combat, "holy crud, I actually HIT it....", only difference being i didn't get so excited by the kill that I flew myself into the ground.... The dogs were troopers and worked their butts off. Aaron cleaned all the kills which was very nice of him since I am a wuss who is sickened by guts, great....

THANKS AGAIN AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARON!!!!!!!!!!

This weekend is Ohio's extra days for deer gun season. I blew a shot at a one antlered buck two weeks ago, but Eric and I spotted him while hunting so I'm hoping I'll get another crack at him this weekend.

I used to hunt duck and goose but gave it up. My wife never did figure out how to cook em. I've been tempted to try again but just haven't got around to it.

Anybody else got any good winter debriefs to show and tell?

I know sunshine has a wild one.
