Post by davidturner »

I won a new DX6i at our club Christmas party last December. Have yet to try it out. It came with one ar6200. Any dos or don't s anyone had with this system? Any suggestions on where to get good receivers that are compatible with this radio at a reasonable price? Thanks!! :D

I've had a DX6i for about two years, and really like it. I've used it mostly for my electric and slope planes, and have flown glitch-free for the entire time (wish I could say that about my Optic 6). I've used the AR6100 "Park flyer" receivers, and have flown my electric Arrow so high that I couldn't tell up from down on the plane... and the 6100 is a single module receiver. The 6200 has a primary and remote receiver, so that should be even better.

I really like the model lock setup -- so you can't accidentally mis-control a plane if you have the wrong model selected from memory, it simply will not lock on.

Cons: Two things. The menu selection knob is a little twitchy, sometimes you mean to press it to make a selection, and instead it turns a little and moves the cursor in the menu. The second issue I've encountered only relates to an issue for elevon mixing, where one side moves more than the other - there's an easy fix to use the AUX port of the receiver instead of the elevator for mixing for elevon.

I think you're pretty much locked into Spektrum brand receivers, at least I don't know anyone who has used anything else. They tend to be a little pricey, at ~$50 for the AR6110 park model. But no crystal needed, so there's some savings there. With the experience I've had, I wouldn't hesitate to use the "park model" receiver for a combat plane, you're rarely going to fly that far away.

David, I'm not using a DX6i I have a Futaba with the Spectrum mod but I have been using the AR6100 park flier recievers no with no issues. There $50 each almost anywhere. I've been putting them in the wing of my Bandito's but they fit nicely in the box of the battleaxe also.
