HobbyParts 25 engine
I just got in an Engine from Hobbyparts.
On the website they list it as an ASP S25 AII for $46.50 (free shipping)
What I got looks EXACTLY (from what I can tell) the Magnum 25 XLS photo here but with the Magnum name machined off. I know ASP and Magnum are made at the same China factory.
remote needle valve, squarish head and blue silicone tubing.
I will be breaking it in tomorrow.

David that is a hot engine and a good price.. I am running in the XLS .25 and with stock muffler, 10% nitro 18% oil she is turning a MA 10 X 4 at 14,760 RPM's on a pinch.
If I put the baffle in it will probable turn 14,500 or drop to 5% nitro

Re: HobbyParts 25 engine
David did you get time to run this engine? If so could you tell everyone the results?

That is nothing like the Magnum 25XLS - look at the round cylinder head and carburetor clamping for a start.dditch wrote:Here is what I ordered:

OK, so that people stop referring to the website to see what I got, here are pics.
Once again, Photos on the website are NOT , I repeat NOT what I got in.
I DID order the ASP .25 AII, and that's what the box says, but what was in the box was THIS:

note how Magnum name is machined off.

Re: HobbyParts 25 engine
All casting details from the XLS appear "identical" to what you just posted. (except for the xls mark) The big question now is...Does it use the "ABC" technology? - Aluminum piston-Chrome plated Brass sleeve.

OK, now that one looks identical to my Magnum 25XLS (minus the name).dditch wrote:OK, so that people stop referring to the website to see what I got, here are pics.

At $46.50 vs $79.95 there has to be a corner cut somewhere - surely?
And that really makes OS's $130 for the 25FX look really silly!

Re: HobbyParts 25 engine
I can't confirm ABC cause I did not look at it. I did feel the quick resistance at the top piston position like a non-ringed new engine. I don't recall seeing a ring when I got it. Maybe I'll pull the head off at the contest Sat for someone to take a look when the contest is all over.
Hobbypartz more often than not searches for "deals". Those deals will not necessarily be long term. They may sell out, then show out of stock for the next 2 years. W/ the name machined out, they probably bought ovestock or something and they machined the name off.
At lunch, I did the break in.
9x4 prop.
SORT OF following what was suggested to me, I did 5 short runs (10,20,30,30,30sec)at 90% peak (running rich). 90% peak was about 15,000RPM
Letting it cool down between runs.
I then filled the tank and put on a 10x4 MAS. It peaked at 14,300
I richened it up some and and it did not really drop much and it ran at 14,100-14,200
At the end, the bottom of the case where the bearings are were cool to the touch still.
15% coolpower, today is 70F and nearly 90% humidity
BTW, what plugs do you guys use?
I use Enya #3 plug cause I bought a bunch several years ago for my Nitro Heli. I used to pull them out of the heli after 1 gallon, then use on airplanes. They seem to do well in nearly every Nitro 2 stroke I've used
