My brother sent me this link. Maybe somebody can interpret the Russian for us so that we know the salient facts about the restoration.

Thanks, Ed! That was cool. As you know the IL-2 (and variants) was/is the most produced aircraft in history but I've never seen one fly until now. Something like 72,000 of them were built, I think.

It is video clip about first test flight of IL-2 Restored at Novosibirsk city. Aircraft was found in swamp near Pskov town. Restoration take six years. They have to rebuild tail (because original tail made from wood decay completely). Metal parts are mostly original. Bullet hole shown on video left as is ( reminder from previews life). All cockpit equipment are original. Landing gear cover hand-build from aluminum using manufacturer blueprints.
Next year they are planning to fly during Moscow airshow together with other restored WWII aircrafts.

Serg
will be happy to talk about Ilyushin-2 more.

Thanks for the translation Serg! I volunteer at an air museum, and I know what a labor of love, blood, sweat and tears go into a restoration like that.
