Wing Building

Post by EK »

I got some uncovered wings from Eric last year that have been sitting on the shelf in the barn. The last Wichita contest was a little rough on my B wings so decided to rebuild one of the avenger wings (install my mods).

Started by cutting the span down to 60"

Single wire pulled new 100psi leading edges

Router setup for ice maker tubing installation in the LE

Measure with a micrometer, cut with an axe.... hacking off the existing wing LE

Glueing on the new leading edge (poly glue)

Installing the Ailerons

Color Added

All up weight is 22.5oz with a full sized servo.

Picture size edited 7/17 for faster load.

Very nice Evan, thanks for the build pics. I am convinced pics and build articles inspire others.

Its good to see a flurry of activity.

Evan,
I was inspired when reading your prose to note Roget's Thesaurus sitting proudly on the workbench!

Unless we're talking eerkies and bernoullis', most 'I flew jets' aviators don't do well with the big words. Right next to the Thesaurus on the book shelf is Websters dictionary. Both spend most their time as building weights.....

Good information Evan. What kind of power supply do you use for your cutter? What brand of tape do you use for covering?

Power supply is a variac I got from an old club member. It's pretty big (mounted in a plywood box that's about 6X6) but works good. 0 - 120 volt output but I use it at less than 20v.

Tape is from fastpac but I like the 3M bidi better.
